How to monitor a public dataset for structural changes

A repeatable approach for detecting when a public dataset changes in a way that matters to downstream work.

1. Choose the authoritative dataset URL or download.
2. Record a baseline schema and key fields.
3. Check for added, removed or renamed columns and records.
4. Separate structural changes from ordinary row updates.
5. Keep a dated change log so downstream users can trace what changed.
